The 2000 fly-fishing season officially kicks-off March 26 with the annual Free Fly Fishing Festival at the Fishermen's Spot, 14423 Burbank Blvd., in Van Nuys.

The Festival -to be held in the two parking lots in front of and across the street from the store- is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature exhibit booths from some 35 manufacturers and their representatives. There will be free drawings for door prizes.

"We will have a casting area where you can test the latest fresh and saltwater rods, reels and other tackle with company representatives on hand to answer any questions about the product and its features," says store co-owner Steve Ellis.

There will be free parking and a relaxed, no-hurry atmosphere.

Companies exhibiting at the Spot's Fly-Fishing Festival include Sage, Scott, Winston, G. Loomis, St. Croix, Redington, Cortland, Scientific Angler and Orvis.

Others are Abel, Bauer, Ex Officio, Tibor, Lamson, Teton, Islander, Streamline, Simms, Buck's Bag, Daiichi, Daiichi, Ross, Hardy, J. W. Outfitters, Glacier Glove, Wood River and Lamiglas.

Fly Logic, Galvan, Bear Sportswear, Loop, Islander, Ronny American, Brodin, Action Optics and Rio round out the exhibitor list. Other manufacturers are expected to register for the event in the days leading up to the show.

"This is a free family event. ..a great opportunity to meet your friends from this and neighboring Southern California FFF clubs and spend a few hours warming up for the Sierra season," said Ellis.
